Free ride services continue in select Metro Manila routes Wednesday

MANILA, Philippines — The national government will continue to provide free rides to commuters that will be affected by the heavy rains brought by the southwest monsoon on Wednesday, according to the Department of Transportation (DOTr).

In an advisory, the DOTr said that the free rides can be availed from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. along the following routes and vice versa:

  • Quiapo to Fairview
  • Quiapo to Welcome Rotonda (stand-by along España)
  • Divisoria to Cubao (via Recto/Nagtahan)
  • Divisoria to Monumento
  • Baclaran to Monumento (via Taft)
  • Kalentong to Pasig
  • Marikina to Cubao
  • Lawton to Sucat
  • Lawton to Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX)
  • Pasig Palengke to Cainta Junction
  • Monumento to PITX (busway)

The government began offering free rides on Tuesday amid the heavy rains brought by the habagat.

The DOTr on Tuesday said that a tarpaulin or signage with “LIBRENG SAKAY” will be displayed on the vehicles. It added that there will be no designated terminals as the buses will be looped in their respective routes.

The agency also said that 27 vehicles will be deployed in these routes, with the help of the Office of the President, Land Transportation Office, Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines, Philippine Coast Guard, Philippine Ports Authority, Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board, and Department of Energy.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration in its 5 a.m. weather forecast said that the southwest monsoon will continue to bring rains over Luzon and western section of Visayas on Wednesday. Meanwhile, it noted that the Tropical Depression Neneng is forecast to not directly affect any parts of the country. /mr
