Taylor Sheridan's Landman Is Officially Coming Back

Outside of his hit Yellowstone franchise, Taylor Sheridan’s Landman has been steadily cementing his reputation as the go-to creative name for gripping modern neo-Westerns. Trading Montana ranches for the oil fields of West Texas, the Paramount+ show has developed its own identity while retaining many Sheridan trademarks, from dangerous business dealings to complicated family dynamics. With Billy Bob Thornton leading its impressive ensemble cast, Landman has quickly become one of Sheridan’s biggest ongoing shows.

After the explosive season 2 finale, all eyes were immediately on when Landman would return for the next chapter of its story. Thankfully, following an uncharacteristic amount of silence for a Taylor Sheridan project, there is finally movement. Landman season 3 was officially ordered by Paramount+ in December 2025, and after months of uncertainty surrounding its filming schedule, production on the next 10 episodes is now getting underway.

Social media posts from cast members like James Jordan (via Instagram) have confirmed that the Landman gang is getting back to work on season 3. That means Billy Bob Thornton’s Tommy Norris is officially on his way back after the Landman season 2 finale completely transformed his position in the oil business. Unfortunately, despite cameras finally rolling, the next chapter isn't expected to reach Paramount+ nearly as quickly as the previous two seasons did.

Landman Is Returning, But There’s A Catch

The good news is that Landman season 3 is moving forward. The bad news is that its production schedule makes a 2026 return impossible. Thanks to some unplanned delays, filming seems to have started in September this year and is expected to continue through the first quarter of 2027. Paramount+ has yet to announce an official premiere date, but that schedule means 2027 is now the earliest realistic window for the new episodes of Landman.

That's a substantial change for a series that had previously maintained an impressively tight turnaround. Landman season 1 premiered in November 2024, followed by season 2 almost exactly one year later in November 2025. Season 3 is breaking what briefly appeared to be an annual release pattern.

This is especially noticeable by Taylor Sheridan's standards. Many of his biggest shows have expanded rapidly, while Landman will still have only 20 released episodes heading into 2027, three years after it debuted. For comparison, Yellowstone had three full seasons within two years, with its first spinoff, 1883, arriving shortly later. The extended gap for Landman isn't necessarily worrying for the show's future, but it does make season 3 feel unusually distant for one of Sheridan's hottest properties.

Still, the start of filming is the milestone fans have been waiting for. The wait for Landman season 3 will be longer than expected, but Tommy Norris' return is no longer merely a hypothetical. Production is well underway, which means an official release date for Landman’s return on Paramount+ should be just around the corner.

Landman Is The New Crown Jewel Of Taylor Sheridan's Empire

The anticipation surrounding season 3, and disappointment over its longer wait, highlights just how important Landman has become. Taylor Sheridan has numerous successful series to his name, but Landman has rapidly emerged as one of the biggest. Season 2's premiere recorded more than 9.2 million streaming views globally in its first two days, making it Paramount+'s most-watched original-series premiere at the time (via Variety).

The appeal of Landman for neo-Western fans, especially those who love Taylor Sheridan, is easy to understand. Thornton's Tommy is an ideal Sheridan protagonist: endlessly capable but permanently surrounded by disasters, moving between corporate negotiations, oil-field emergencies, and the chaos of his family. Landman combines Sheridan's trademark character drama with the enormous financial stakes of the Texas oil industry, giving the Yellowstone creator another distinctly American arena in which ambition, wealth and power constantly collide.

The ending of season 2 also created plenty of reasons to be excited for Landman season 3. After being fired from M-Tex by Cami Miller (Demi Moore), Tommy formed CTT Oil Exploration and Cattle with Cooper (Jacob Lofland) as president and himself as vice president. The new venture brings much of Tommy's trusted team together, leaving Tommy with his own company but also some potentially dangerous obligations to CTT’s financial backer, Andy Garcia’s Danny Morell.

That effectively gives Landman a new status quo just as the show is hitting its stride. Yellowstone and its collection of spinoffs remains the series that built Sheridan's television empire, but Landman has established a huge identity outside that franchise. If season 3 can capitalize on CTT's creation and Tommy's newfound independence, Landman could become the defining Taylor Sheridan neo-Western.
