Harry Potter fans are counting down the days for the launch of the new HBO reboot series this Christmas, which is set to adapt J.K. Rowling's original books more faithfully than the iconic films were ever able to. With an entire season devoted to each book, the reboot has an opportunity to explore the darker elements that the original movies sometimes condensed or overlooked, and can take the time to delve into plot lines that didn't make the original cut.
From the cruelty of Harry's childhood with the Dursleys to Voldemort's rise to power, the horrors of the Death Eaters, and the devastating losses and tragedies that define the later books, HBO could deliver a far more mature and emotionally complex adaptation of the beloved fantasy saga, though it remains unclear whether this is what audiences are really looking for after all.
However, the Wizarding World is also set to expand beyond the new television series, with an exciting new Harry Potter book scheduled for January 2027 that will give longtime fans an incredible new perspective on the franchise as a whole.
A decade after its original release, The Art of Harry Potter is officially returning in January 2027 with a revised and expanded edition that celebrates the Wizarding World's incredible cinematic legacy. Originally published in 2017, the massive hardcover art book by Marc Sumerak offered fans a unique look behind the scenes of the eight original Harry Potter movies, while the updated version adds a ton more content from the newer spin-offs.
According to publisher Titan Books, The Art of Harry Potter (Revised and Expanded) will release on January 5, and will feature 394 pages of artwork and behind-the-scenes material from the beloved fantasy franchise, with roughly "thirty-two pages of new content and art" beyond what was included in the 2017 edition.
The original edition explored the extraordinary artistic work that went into bringing J.K. Rowling's magical universe to life, featuring hundreds of production paintings, concept sketches, storyboards, blueprints, and other materials created throughout the development of the movies. No images of the updated version have been released yet, but you can check out the original 2017 version courtesy artbookcollecter.com below.

The book features original designs of everything from the iconic architecture of Hogwarts to the magical creatures, elaborate costumes, and unforgettable characters, with a fascinating glimpse into the creative decisions that shaped the original films. It gives Potterheads a chance to look at designs and concepts that they might otherwise have overlooked while watching the movies, such as how things changed from the original concept into the iconic imagery we're familiar with today.
Aside from being available again after ten years (new copies of the original book are pretty hard to come by), the Revised edition will feature material covering the Fantastic Beasts movies, expanding beyond Harry Potter's original adventures to include the prequel films starring Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander. This makes the updated release an especially intriguing collector's item for fans who enjoy the franchise's larger mythology, particularly the different visual interpretations of the Wizarding World and how they evolved/changed over multiple generations.
The revised edition will be published as a large-format hardcover measuring approximately 13 by 10 inches, with a UK retail price of £54.99, with discounted pre-orders available on sites like Forbidden Planet. Preorders are available through select retailers, although Titan Books has not confirmed a separate North American/US release date as of this writing. As such, supplies may be limited for the UK release at first, and more details are likely to surface as January draws closer.

Most importantly, the upcoming book offers something for Harry Potter fans regardless of how they feel about HBO's highly anticipated reboot. While the television series promises to introduce new interpretations of familiar characters, locations, and the story itself, the original movies have established an identity that remains inseparable from the franchise even 25 years after the first film premiered.
For longtime fans who aren't particularly enthusiastic about the prospect of replacing those iconic films, The Art of Harry Potter is a celebration of the original cinematic Wizarding World that helped define an entire generation. Meanwhile, those excited about HBO's reboot will find an equally compelling reason to revisit the book, particularly as a way of comparing the original films' creative decisions with the new ones arriving this year.
