China GDP growth picks up to 4.5% from 3-year low
China’s economy grew 4.5% year-on-year in Q3 2026, up from Q2’s three-year low of 4.3% and above market expectations of 4.4%. Growth was supported by recent policy loosening, strong exports, but domestic consumption and investment remain sluggish amid a prolonged downturn in the property market and weak employment prospects.
China’s year-on-year economic growth for the first three quarters of the year came in at 4.6%, the National Bureau of Statistics said on Monday.
The world's second-largest economy is targeting gross domestic product growth between 4.5% and 5% this year, down from the “around 5%” goal in previous years.
China’s industrial production expanded 5.5% year-on-year in September 2026, accelerating from a 5.2% rise in August and surpassing expectations of 5.4%. It was the strongest growth in industrial output since March.
