The Iris Affair favourite set to star in new AI thriller Harmonia as filming begins

Translate

The Iris Affair star Niamh Algar is heading to Greece for a new thriller, which imagines a luxury holiday resort controlled by an unsettling artificial intelligence.

Harmonia is a six-part psychological thriller, which has drawn comparisons to Frankenstein with its story of a dangerous, rogue creation – and the flawed person behind it.

Algar plays Shona Casey, who programmed the AI that now runs a supposedly premium wellness retreat, while French actor Fanny Ardant plays the resort's former owner.

Over the course of the series, viewers will be led to question whether the true monster is the AI itself or the humans influencing its behaviour (via Deadline).

The series is a co-production between Greek and UK-based talents, including creators Peter Carlton, Lefteris Charitos, Amanda Livanou and Hanna Jameson.

Further plot details are being kept under wraps, but we do know that Chloe Lea (A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms) will play a hotel staff member upon whom the AI becomes fixated.

Oliver Chris (Rivals), Abubakar Salim (House of the Dragon), Goran Bogdan (The Last Panthers) and Theo Augier (XO Kitty) also star, alongside George Ioannides (Industry), Pygmalion Dadakaridis, Konstantinos Zografos, Antigoni Frida and newcomer Zoe-Stella Nikolaou.

On the British side, Harmonia is a project of Adolescence co-producer Warp Films and ITV Studios, while the Greek team includes Athens-based Neda Film and public broadcaster ERT.

Co-creator and head writer Jameson said: "With this project, I had the chance to tell a truly meaningful story full of funny, strange, and complicated characters, reminiscent of the legendary genre shows I grew up watching.

"It's been so exciting to explore how our relationship with technology has changed so fast in such a short period of time, evolving faster than our ability to understand the personal and global consequences."

Shooting is currently in progress, taking place on location in Athens, at the Cape Sounio resort and Kapa2 Studios, with an eye towards a 2027 premiere date.

For Algar, it marks another high-profile lead following The Iris Affair, in which she played enigmatic mathematical genius Iris Nixon opposite Tom Hollander. Her other credits include Mary & George, Malpractice and Suspect.

Harmonia is coming soon to ITVX.
