Authorities arrested one of two suspects in the theft of a century-old bell from St. Peter the Apostle Church in Loboc, Bohol.
In a “24 Oras” report by Alan Domingo on Tuesday, a carpenter and a maintenance worker discovered that the bell had gone missing on Sunday.
The bell is more than a century old, having been made in 1914.
Parish priest Reverend Father Agerio Paña shared the incident on social media, prompting Loboc police to investigate and review CCTV footage from around the church.
The footage showed two suspects entering the church grounds and taking the bell before loading it onto a tricycle.
Through the CCTV footage and coordination with the Sagbayan police, authorities arrested one of the suspects on Tuesday morning.
Police later recovered the bell in the town of Tubigon.
Authorities are still searching for the second suspect, a woman from Sagbayan. Charges are being prepared against both suspects.
