Jakarta seeks stronger investment to drive economic growth

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta Provincial Government is intensifying its collaboration with private investors to accelerate economic growth, generate employment and boost the capital's competitiveness as it aims to rank among the world’s top 20 global cities by 2045.
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo stated that the city maintains a resilient economic foundation, anchoring its ongoing expansion as a national and regional business hub.
"Jakarta’s economic performance remains strong; this is evidenced by an economic growth rate of 5.52 percent in the second quarter of 2026 - surpassing the national growth rate of 5.29 percent," Pramono said in Jakarta on Monday (November 2).
Speaking at a High Tea Reception hosted jointly with venture capital firm East Ventures at Jakarta City Hall, the governor noted that the capital's economic output accounts for roughly 16.32 percent of Indonesia's total gross domestic product.
According to Pramono, incoming investments must generate direct public benefits, focusing heavily on employment creation, technology transfer as well as the empowerment of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs).
To facilitate this, the provincial government has opened investment avenues across multiple strategic sectors, including integrated transportation, transit-oriented development (TOD), water and waste management, coastal resilience, electric vehicles (EVs), healthcare, tourism and digital infrastructure.
"The focus is not merely on the monetary value," Pramono said, emphasizing the broad scope of urban sectors open for private participation.
To attract and retain capital, Jakarta authorities are actively streamlining licensing procedures and improving integrated investment services to ensure regulatory certainty for businesses.
The administration views venture capital partnerships - such as its collaboration with East Ventures - as vital conduits for connecting local startups, digital talent and MSMEs with essential capital, advanced technology and international networks.
"We truly hope that this partnership with East Ventures will proceed successfully. We are, of course, very open to such collaborations," Pramono concluded, signaling the city's readiness to forge deeper ties with domestic and international private-sector leaders.
