Tyla brought snakeskin and serious abs to the 2026 VMAs (Video)

Tyla arrived at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards, held 27 September at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.

She looked every bit the global superstar she’s become.

Once again, her red carpet moment is the one everyone’s talking about.

The South African singer first broke through internationally with her breakout single Water. 

She has since gone on to win two Grammy Awards, cementing her status as a genuine global pop force rather than a one-hit sensation.

This year, she took on presenting duties at the ceremony, hosted by Snoop Dogg.

A PRADA-INSPIRED MOMENT, MADE ENTIRELY HER OWN

For this year’s VMAs, Tyla stepped onto the carpet in a striking two-piece look from Nigerian-British designer Mowalola Ogunlesi’s Spring/Summer 2027 ready-to-wear collection.

Styled by Ronnie Hart, the outfit consisted of a faux blue snakeskin bra top paired with a matching pencil skirt and classic pumps.

It was a bold, body-confident look that had heads turning the moment she arrived, evoking the risqué red carpet energy of the early 2000s VMAs.

The look wasn’t happening in isolation either.

Bra tops became one of the defining trends of this year’s VMAs red carpet entirely.

The trend was inspired by Prada’s much-talked-about Spring/Summer 2027 show earlier in the week at Milan Fashion Week, which leaned heavily into the silhouette.

Other stars, including Ciara Miller and Rei Ami, embraced the same trend in their own ways.

Tyla’s snakeskin take, though, stood out as one of the boldest interpretations of the night.

A PATTERN OF GENUINELY GREAT VMAS FASHION

This isn’t a one-off for Tyla.

At last year’s VMAs, she turned a vintage Chanel Spring/Summer 1993 corset top into a micro-dress.

She jokingly described the outfit backstage by saying, “I said put me in Chanel.”

That same night, she took home three Moon Persons, including Best New Artist, cementing 2025 as a genuine breakthrough year for her both musically and stylistically.

The year before that, she wore a striking yellow string dress from Area’s Spring/Summer 2025 collection to the same event.

This continues what’s now become a genuinely reliable pattern: Tyla shows up to the VMAs, and she shows out.

I have to say, I love watching an artist build this kind of consistent, fearless fashion identity year after year.

It takes real confidence to keep taking risks like this on one of pop culture’s biggest stages.
