India vs New Zealand Squad Announcement: Test preparation to drive tricky selections

India vs New Zealand Squad Announcement 2026 Live Updates: The India men's senior selection committee is likely to convene on Tuesday or Wednesday to finalise the four squads for the New Zealand tour, with interim chief selector Pragyan Ojha set to chair the meeting. The session was postponed from Monday as the selectors awaited Prasidh Krishna's fitness report.

The biggest challenge will be balancing the India A series with the senior team's T20I and ODI commitments. Since the A matches overlap with the limited-overs fixtures, the selectors are keen to ensure that Test regulars receive sufficient red-ball exposure without weakening the other squads. Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Devdutt Padikkal and Sai Sudharsan are all expected to play at least one A game. KL could feature in the opening fixture before joining the ODI squad, while Pant, who is currently focused on Tests, is also likely to use the series to complete his preparation.

Akash Deep could play in the A series as he builds towards his Test return, while Mukesh Kumar's strong Irani Cup showing has put him back in contention for the A squad. The selectors are also deliberating over Bumrah's workload, with the management keen for the pace spearhead to increase his bowling load before the Wellington Test.

Ishan Kishan has also returned to the red-ball conversation, although Dhruv Jurel and Kumar Kushagra could be preferred for A-series exposure. The spin combination remains unsettled, with Washington Sundar fit again and Jadeja expected to retain his place.

The Test pace attack presents a selection headache, with Bumrah, Siraj, Prasidh, Gurnoor Brar, Akash Deep and Auqib Nabi competing for spots. ODI depth could also be tested if several Test regulars are rested.
