KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 18 — The Sahabat Madani Selangor initiative aims to strengthen youth participation in volunteerism and community service to support local communities.
Senior Political Advisor to the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz said the initiative was a continuation of the Sahabat Madani programme launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in Penang last August.
He said the platform was intended to encourage more young people to contribute their time and energy to community-based programmes throughout Selangor.
“Activities include gotong-royong programmes organised in collaboration with local authorities, such as the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ), as well as other initiatives to assist the public.
“Sahabat Madani provides an ideal platform for young people to participate in such programmes and contribute to community development,” he told Bernama after launching the Rentap Pandan Madani 2026 Muay Thai Championship at the Muhibbah Complex here last night.
In another development, Tengku Zafrul, who is also Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) president, expressed hope that the national representatives who had reached the finals of the 2026 Denmark Open would emerge victorious today.
He said the progress of men’s doubles pair Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik, as well as women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah, to the finals reflected the players’ strong performances.
Earlier, Aaron and Wooi Yik became the first Malaysian pair to reach the finals after defeating South Korea’s world number one combination, Kim Won Ho and Seo Seung Jae, 21-14, 21-18.
Pearly and Thinaah then completed Malaysia’s double qualification for the finals by overcoming China’s Bao Li Jing and Cao Zi Han 21-16, 21-14 at the SJF Bank Arena in Odense. — Bernama
