Romanda Hombir earns top spot at Miss World pageant

Translate

Romanda Hombir has earned a top spot as Miss World Africa, after placing in the Top 6 at the pageant finale on Saturday, 5 September in Vietnam.

The 27-year-old earned the first high placement since Rolene Strauss’s title win in 2014.

ROMANDA HOMBIR WINS MISS WORLD AFRICA TITLE

In a finale ceremony, Romanda Hombir made it to the Top 6 in the 75th edition of the Miss World finale, which was ultimately won by Joheirry Mola Dominguez of the Dominican Republic.

As the top pic in the Africa group, the clinical audiologist was given the continental title of Miss World Africa.

Romanda Hombir now has South Africa’s highest Miss World placement since 2014 – a Top 6 finish – as well as the Miss World Africa crown.

The last South African to hold the Miss World Africa title before Romanda was Liesl Laurie in 2015, who finished in the Top 11 overall. South Africa’s previous overall winner was Rolene Strauss in 2014.

WHAT DID SHE WIN?

Although Romanda Hombir did not win a cash or material prize, her title as Miss World Africa will make her the continent’s ambassador within the Miss World organisation.

This will give her a broader international platform for her advocacy programme and increase her opportunities to participate in Miss World’s charitable, diplomatic, and promotional activities.

Romanda will likely be expected to make international appearances and engagements associated with the organisation.
