Federal govt aims to cut Terengganu poor households to 20,000 by year-end

KUALA TERENGGANU, Aug 15 — The federal government aims to reduce the number of poor households in Terengganu to 20,000 by this December.

Deputy director-general of the Strategic Development, Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU), under the Prime Minister’s Department (ICU JPM), Datuk Norashiken Ishak, said as of August 13, the number of poor households in Terengganu was recorded at 24,100 households, compared to 26,800 households in early July.

“This effort is the result of coordinated actions by the Terengganu ICU JPM together with related agencies that can increase income, expand economic opportunities, and stabilise the lives of eKasih participants,” she said.

She said this to reporters after completing the Program Jelajah Kesejahteraan Rakyat 2026 for the Kuala Terengganu and Kuala Nerus zones, organised by the Terengganu ICU JPM, at the Hiliran People’s Housing Project (PPR) here today.

Norashiken said that additionally, her team has also succeeded in improving the living standards and welfare of the B40, especially eKasih participants, through 310 Rumah Kasih Ihsan projects implemented as of August this year, covering a total allocation of RM18.44 million.

She also said the total includes 161 new construction projects, 146 house renovation projects, and three new stilt house construction projects.

“So, InsyaAllah, we will continue this effort and contribution, and it is also the commitment of the Madani Government to ensure the well-being of the people,” she added.

Meanwhile, the Program Jelajah Kesejahteraan Rakyat 2026 for the Kuala Terengganu and Kuala Nerus zones, held today, brings together the services and interventions from various agencies to facilitate the community, especially the eKasih households, in obtaining assistance and services according to their needs.

Based on the value of Ihsan, the programmr was enlivened by the presence of 4,000 visitors, including 700 eKasih participants, and featured 18 government service booths for advisory services, eligibility checks and assistance matching. — Bernama
