Impeachment court serves subpoena to Davao City Mayor Baste Duterte

MANILA, Philippines — The Senate impeachment court on Tuesday served a subpoena to Davao City Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte to appear as the prosecution panel’s witness in the impeachment trial of her sister, Vice President Sara Duterte.

Two members of the Senate Office of the Sergeant-at-Arms personally went to Davao City to serve the subpoena ordering Mayor Duterte to appear before the Senate from September 28 to 30 at 10 a.m.

“You are hereby commanded to appear before the Senate Impeachment Court… to testify your knowledge in the case which is before the Court in which the House of Representatives has impeached Vice President Sara Zimmerman Duterte,” the subpoena read.

It also ordered Mayor Duterte to produce certified true copies and complete electronic copies of the Davao City Government’s official records on contracts and other transaction records entered into by the municipality with Gencorp Industries, Inc. and “any corporation or other entity that owns or operates a Jollibee branch or establishment.”

In her statement of assets, liabilities and net worth, the vice president declared that she is a stakeholder in Gencorp, but the Securities and Exchange Commission’s records do not list Sara Duterte among its incorporators.

This is the second subpoena the Davao City Mayor’s Office has received after the court recalled the first subpoena that involved a schedule change in the prosecution panel’s presentation of witnesses. /apl
