Police bust 25 drug cases, seize 2.8 kg meth in Kotawaringin Barat

Palangka Raya, C Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Authorities in Kotawaringin Barat District, Central Kalimantan, seized over 2.8 kilograms of methamphetamine and hundreds of ecstasy tablets after uncovering 25 drug trafficking cases between July and October.
Officers arrested 28 suspects, including 25 men and three women, Kotawaringin Barat Police Chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner Joko Handono said in Pangkalan Bun on Tuesday.
He said the cases resulted from operations targeting drug trafficking networks operating across provincial borders and within Kotawaringin Barat District.
Two police reports involved an interprovincial network operating across West Kalimantan, Sampit and Palangka Raya in Central Kalimantan, and South Kalimantan.
Police seized 2,652.16 grams of methamphetamine, 599 ecstasy tablets, and 362 cartridges containing liquid etomidate from the network, Handono said.
The remaining 23 reports involved local networks and yielded 183.7 grams of methamphetamine, with distribution largely involving street-level dealers and users.
The suspects are undergoing further investigation by the West Kotawaringin Police narcotics unit, Handono said.
Police valued the seized drugs at Rp3.8 billion (US$209,759) and said the operation prevented potential drug abuse among roughly 6,700 people.
Suspects face charges under Article 114(2), in conjunction with Article 132(1), of the 2009 Narcotics Law, as amended by Law No. 1 of 2026, or Article 609(2)(a) of the 2023 Criminal Code.
Under Article 114(2), penalties include death, life imprisonment, or up to 20 years in prison, alongside a maximum fine of Rp2.67 billion (US$147,384).
Handono said the West Kotawaringin Police remain committed to eradicating drug trafficking at its roots and urged residents to report suspected activity in their neighborhoods.
