Valenzuela school suspends classes as police probe shooting threat -- PNP

Classes at an unnamed school in Valenzuela City were temporarily suspended while police investigated a reported shooting threat, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Tuesday.

At a press briefing, PNP spokesperson Police Colonel Allen Rae Co said authorities received a note warning that an individual allegedly had a firearm and planned to shoot people inside the school.

“There was someone in Valenzuela, although it is not yet clear if the person was also a student, who handed a note to one of our faculty members,” Co said.

"The note said that a certain person was carrying a gun and planned to shoot and hurt people inside the school. The person who wrote the note also said they might be caught in the incident, among other things," he added.

Police are coordinating with the school principal, faculty members and other concerned individuals to determine whether the note constituted a genuine threat.

Authorities also checked on the person identified in the note and conducted security sweeps around the school. Police said they found no immediate threat.

The PNP appealed to the public to refrain from making threats that could disrupt classes and unnecessarily consume law enforcement resources.— MCG, GMA News
