Ncuti Gatwa nominated for Doctor Who turn at BAFTA Scotland – along with The Traitors and Bridgerton favourites

BAFTA Scotland has announced its nominees for the Audience Award, in partnership with Screen Scotland, with Ncuti Gatwa in the running for his role as the Doctor in Doctor Who.

Those who Gatwa will be going up against in the category include Julie Wilson Nimmo for Balamory, Katie Leung for Bridgerton, Leah Byrne for Dept. Q, Peter Mullan for I Swear and Stephen Libby for The Traitors.

The nominees were selected by an independent jury comprised of Scotland’s media and culture experts, as figures who made their mark over the past year as the Scottish talent audiences loved to watch and talk about.

The Audience Award is the only category at the BAFTA Scotland Awards which is decided by a public vote, which is open now here.

Voting remains open until 4pm on Friday 30 October, and the winner will be announced at the awards ceremony on Sunday 15 November, which will take place at the DoubleTree by Hilton Glasgow Central.

The Audience Award has previously been won by the likes of Sheli McCoy AKA Sabre for Gladiators, Lawrence Chaney for RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, Sam Heughan for Outlander, Lauren Lyle for Karen Pirie and Ashley Storrie for Dinosaur.

Jude MacLaverty, director of BAFTA Scotland, said in a statement: "We're delighted to announce the six nominees for this year’s Audience Award for favourite Scot on Screen in 2026.

A list of all of the nominations for the BAFTA Scotland Awards 2026 will be announced on Thursday 1 October, featuring 14 competitive categories.

This is the third time Gatwa has been up for the Audience Award for playing the Doctor, and will also be his last, as the actor departed the show, which has now been put out to tender by the BBC, last year.

The BAFTA Scotland Awards 2026 will take place on Sunday 15 November.
