Emmerdale star Kevin Mathurin has revealed that he suffered a heart attack a year ago. The actor, who has played Charles Anderson on the soap since 2020, opened up about the 'life-changing' experience on social media, where he received a load of support from his soap co-stars.

Taking to Instagram, the actor posted a video montage, revealing he had a minor heart attack in mid-October 2025 in a week that "changed my life forever".

Elaborating in the comments, Kevin explained that at the time he was "under a lot of stress and pressure" and that "external issues were taking over my well being".

"I was anxious, stressed, always angry and suppressing it all," he wrote. "Not dealing with things head on. I'd also lost a really good friend to Cancer and was upset that I couldn't make his funeral due to work commitments."

The star admitted it was "all too much that week" as he "felt pains in my ribs and arms", though decided to power through his work and family commitments without complaining. However, partner Nikki "begged" him to get an ECG scan, after which the doctor told him to urgently go to A&E.

"Long story-short I had a blocked artery that had damaged part of my heart, making my heartbeat abnormal, causing heart failure and a minor heart attack," he continued. "Within myself I felt fine, but this freaked me and my family out that I didn't pay attention to my body for a whole week.

"While staying at King's Hospital, London i was kept under monitor and had an Angiogram to determine how serious the blockages were. Thankfully i didn't need surgery for stents, just relying on a lot of meds, exercise and a healthy diet to keep my blood pressure, heart rate and cholesterol down."

Kevin admitted that his time in hospital gave him "a lot of time to think, reset, reevaluate my priorities and how I got to this point in my life in the first place", and "kick-started a total reboot on my outlook on people, places and things".

"I want to see my children grow up into wonderful adults and be in a position to guide them when they need me," he said. "I want to spend quality time with Nikki and be present when I'm with her and my family. I want to see my friends and let them know how much i value their company and time. I want to be a reliable work colleague and have gratitude for what this profession has given me and be open minded for whatever is around the corner."

The star concluded the post by thanking the medical staff who helped him and the NHS, signing-off: "Fear makes you ill. Shuts you down and stand still. Love your people, love life and keep moving."

Kevin has since received supportive comments from his Emmerdale co-stars, including Billy Fletcher actor Jay Kontzle, who wrote: "Love bro," as Tony Audenshaw (Bob Hope) added: "Strong as an Ox."

Ash Palmisciano (Matty Barton) shared: "Ah mate what a stressful time and you still showed up being the nicest guy ever and you’re right it really does! big love mate xxx."

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 8pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
