Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 Reviving 14-Year-Old Debra Morgan Story Teased By Harrison Star

Dexter and Harrison's Dexter: Resurrection season 2 story will feel familiar to viewers of the original series.
As the fourth series, Dexter: Resurrection is finally giving the iconic franchise its first multi-season project since the original Dexter, which came to a divisive end in 2013. Paramount+ is gearing up for the highly anticipated release of Dexter: Resurrection season 2 on October 30, bringing back classic original series and sequel characters alike after a three-year time jump from season 1. During that gap, dynamics have significantly shifted between Dexter: Resurrection's returning characters, with some new stories echoing conflicts from the first Dexter series.
That includes Harrison Morgan (Jack Alcott) and Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall). Now that his son Harrison has officially joined the police force in Resurrection season 2, Dexter's killings add another complex layer to their connection that previously upended his relationship with his detective sister, Deb (Jennifer Carpenter), in the latter seasons of Dexter. Teasing his character's Dexter: Resurrection season 2 story in an interview with ScreenRant's Ash Crossan, Jack Alcott explained that navigating the police force and Dexter's murders will be a new "mine" that Harrison is dangerously stepping into:
Jack Alcott: "We know what happens to best-laid plans. We see Harrison in a good place with his father, and we see Harrison singularly focused for the first time. He knows what he wants to do, and he's starting to do it. And that looks pretty freaking great!
But let's toss in how working in law enforcement is going to complicate his relationship with his father. Having a second mentor in Claudette, who is pointed in the same direction as Dexter, but getting there a very different way. Throw in some office romance. There are so many mines in this room that Harrison is stepping into and going, 'I finally know what I want to do. This is going to be great, and it's going to be smooth. There's only going to be one direction I have to push.'
It's about how complicated life gets when you think you have it figured out."
Just as Deb did once she found out Dexter was a serial killer in Dexter's season 6 finale, Harrison will have to balance his moral obligations to the justice system with Dexter's method of taking justice into his own hands. Lying to his coworkers, hiding information on cases that Dexter illegally discovers, and trying to keep Dexter's own crimes a secret are all problems faced by Deb at Miami Metro that will almost certainly come into play for Harrison at the NYPD.
Following Deb's death in Dexter's original series finale, Harrison's chosen career and decision to not follow in his father's footsteps are sending him on a path much more akin to his late aunt. Just as Deb made peace with who Dexter was shortly before the end of the series, Harrison reconciled with who his father is and what he's done in Dexter: Resurrection season 1, but now will be truly putting his conflicting allegiances to the test in Resurrection season 2.
In Dexter's season 7 finale, that conflict led to Deb having to choose between betraying Dexter and exposing his crimes with Captain Maria LaGuerta or betraying LaGuerta and her career to protect Dexter. Ultimately, a heartbroken Deb killed LaGuerta in order to save Dexter, sending her down a dark personal path before reconciling at the end of season 8. Given Dexter: Resurrection now has Harrison serving under Captain Mixon, Wallace, and Oliva, any of whom could discover Dexter is secretly a serial killer, giving him a similar dilemma to choose between innocent detectives and his father could be in the cards.
Alcott teases that Harrison balancing his loyalties to his father and the NYPD will also be further complicated by a new romance with fellow police officer Fiona Mixon (Nona Parker Johnson), the daughter of his boss, Homicide Captain Mixon (Bokeem Woodbine). Protecting Dexter's secret serial killer life doesn't just have the potential to jeopardize his job, but also his relationship. With each of these factors being intertwined, one small error on Dexter's part could completely upend the life Harrison has built over the past three years.
As Alcott notes, Harrison thinking he "has it figured out" is doomed to lead to unwanted predicaments. Unfortunately for Harrison, working under the NYPD's Claudette Wallace (Kadia Saraf) as both she and Dexter are hunting down the same serial killers in New York City seems like a disaster waiting to happen. However, Dexter will hopefully be able to avoid another devastating situation like he had with Maria LaGuerta in Dexter: Resurrection season 2.
