Translate

Jakarta will host the inaugural Indonesia-China Comprehensive Strategic Dialogue (CSD) on Friday (August 21), Indonesia's Foreign Ministry confirmed on Tuesday.

According to a statement from the Foreign Ministry, the dialogue will be presided over by Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono and his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, and will take place during the latter's visit to Indonesia on August 20-22.

The CSD meeting is a new mechanism of bilateral relations at the foreign minister level, agreed upon during Sugiono's visit to Beijing in April 2025.

The meeting is held to identify cooperation achievements and set up strategic priorities in bilateral relations, the Foreign Ministry said.

On the same day as the CSD, Indonesia will also host the second "2+2" dialogue meeting between Indonesia's and China's foreign and defense ministers.

The "2+2" meeting will focus on strengthening cooperation in political, defense, and security sectors at the bilateral, regional, and global levels.

The two strategic meetings reflect the shared commitment between Indonesia and China to strengthen their comprehensive and strategic cooperation, the Foreign Ministry remarked.

Indonesian data showed bilateral trade with China reached about US$154 billion in 2025.

Indonesia's main exports to China include ferroalloys, nickel matte, lignite, coal, and palm oil, underscoring China's importance as one of the country's largest export markets.

China also remains one of Indonesia's biggest foreign investors, with investment continuing to expand across strategic sectors, including manufacturing, infrastructure, and technology.
