Some five years after last appearing in the hit franchise, NCIS alum Scott Bakula is returning to the detective drama.

The five-time Emmy nominee memorably made his debut in CBS' Navy-based procedural with the Mark Harmon-led series, serving as the Resident Agent-In-Charge for the New Orleans branch of the agency. Bakula went on to lead the seven-season NCIS spinoff, which expanded his lore in the franchise's timeline, including that he joined the NIS two years before Gibbs and became friends during their time as the famed group of agents known as the "Fed Five."

Now, as first reported by Deadline, Bakula has signed on to star in and executive produce a new untitled detective procedural at CBS. The series, which sources report is still in the early stages of development, has been penned by Perception's Michael Sussman, with Bakula's role teased as being a "leap" from that of Dwight Pride in the NCIS franchise. In addition to Sussman and Bakula, the new series has Dean Devlin onboard as an EP through his Electric Entertainment banner.
