Kaizer Chiefs news: Mokwana medical, Da Cruz’s R11 million gamble

Translate

Kaizer Chiefs are in talks with Bafana winger Elias Mokwana. Meanwhile, the future of manager Fernando Da Cruz could hinge on one match.

Chiefs close to securing Mokwana

In 2023-24, Elias Mokwana’s performances caught the eye when he bagged four goals and four assists in 25 league outings for Babina Noko. The 27-year-old’s most recent minutes for Bafana were in December 2025 against Egypt. He was an unused substitute for South Africa’s AFCON Round of 16 defeat to Cameroon in January 2026, but hasn’t been selected for the national team since. Will the man valued at R11 million be able to make Chiefs a more potent attacking outfit? That’s the risk Fernando Da Cruz might be taking.

Mokwana will be confirmed as a Chiefs player pending medical examinations.

Chiefs’ season is riding on Siwelele and beyond

Meanwhile, Kaizer Chiefs are already 12 points adrift of leaders Sundowns, and their season is only nine matches old. Also out of the CAF Confed Cup and MTN8, a lot hinges on the club winning the Carling Knockout to salvage their season. Next up, they face Siwelele in the quarter-finals after disposing of TS Galaxy in the round of 16.
