Amr Adib lashes out over Egypt’s stray dog crisis

Translate

Media personality Amr Adib has revisited the issue of stray dogs on Sunday following the death of a young girl who was mauled to death by dogs late in October.

During his program “al-Hekaya,” (the story) on MBC Masr channel, Adib questioned how the debate has persisted without any clear solution being reached.

He noted that the issue of stray dogs frequently resurfaces in public discourse.

Adib highlighted a societal divide: one group opposes the culling of dogs, viewing it as an unacceptable act, while another group considers the presence of these animals on the streets a danger to citizens, especially children, due to the risk of bites and attacks that can sometimes prove fatal.

“Is there no middle ground? Is there no clear solution to this problem?”, he asked.

He added that some view expenditures aimed at managing the stray dog population as a waste of resources, especially since the dogs remain on the streets, until a tragic incident occurs, bringing the issue back into the spotlight.
