Boston Red Sox right-hander Sonny Gray didn't get the final start of the season he wanted against the New York Yankees, though several factors contributed.

Unfortunately for the Red Sox and Gray, that can't be undone.
All he can look forward to is the future, though many questions remain about whether his future will be in Major League Baseball.
Gray has talked about possibly retiring, as the soon-to-be 37-year-old in November faces a major decision about his future in Major League Baseball.
Rumors of his retirement have been circulating, and Red Sox ace Garrett Crochet had a lot to say about it.
"I still think he's got a lot to give the game, but there's something to be said about going out on your own terms, I suppose," Crochet said, according to MassLive's Chris Cotillo. "Whatever he ultimately decides, that'll be something that as a team, we support him on. But it was a pleasure having him here in Boston."

A lot of these guys understand that getting family time is very important, but as Crochet touched on, he still has a lot to give to this game.
Gray's a three-time All-Star and was arguably the best pitcher in the American League for a lot of the season this year. He ended up with an 18-5 record, leading the American League in wins.
He also posted a 2.72 ERA and struck out 149 hitters in 169.0 innings.
