Malaysia's squash players aim to reach three Asian Games finals today

NAGOYA: While the action continues at the Asian Games today, the Malaysian contingent's chances of getting more medals are somewhat limited as most of their athletes will be competing in only the early rounds of their events.

In archery, Fatin Nurfatehah Mat Salleh, Aina Syazwana Abdul Muhaimin and Iman Aisyah Norazam will only be involved in the women's individual compound qualifiers.

The men's category will see Evan Rich Chong, Haiqal Danish and Quick Chern Xin in action while Joey Tan, Ariana Nur Damia Zairi and Ku Nurin Afiqah Ku Ruzaini will compete in the women's individual recurve qualifiers.

In BMX cycling, Nur Airen Sofea Aszeril will ride in the women's park seeding round. Equestrian rider Diani Lee will compete in the women's individual dressage qualifiers.

In surfing, Monda Rasidah Abdul Rashid will compete in the women's shortboard while Iqbal Nazham Musmuliadi, Adam Aierell Mohd Azizol (boys' skiff) as well as Aina Zulaikha Azizul Rahman and Nor Izniey Humaira Mohd Azri (girls' skiff) will compete in the first round of their respective events.

In athletics, Jonah Chang Rigan will fight it out in the men's shot put while Danish Iftikhar Roslee and Haziq Akhir will see action in the early rounds of the men's 200m alongside Armin Zahryl Abd Latif in the men's 110m hurdles.

Shooters Gan Chen Jie, Alia Husna Budruddin and the evergreen Nur Suryani Taibi will line up in the women's 50m rifle three-positions individual and team events.

In diving, Nur Elisha Rania-Pandelela Rinong will feature in the women's 10m platform synchronised while Nurqayyum Nazmi Nazim-Yong Rui Jie will dive in the men's 3m springboard synchronised event.

In squash, defending champions S. Sivasangari (women's singles), Ng Eain Yow (men's singles) as well as Ameeshenraj Chandaran-Rachel Arnold (mixed doubles) will seek a spot in the final of their respective events, and be assured of at least the silver in the process.

In badminton, Justin Hoh, Leong Jun Hao (men's singles), Wong Ling Chin (women's singles), Aaron Chia-Tee Kai Wun and Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani (men's doubles) will try to smash their way into the last eight.

In eSports, Malaysia will compete in the Pokemon Unite competition group stage against the Philippines.

The men's field hockey squad will continue their group stage campaign against former Asian kingpins Pakistan while the cricketers will play Oman, also in the group stage.
