Daniil Medvedev has beaten Frenchman Adrian Mannarino in a comfortable straight-sets victory in the quarterfinals of the Vienna Open on Friday. This also ensures his participation in the ATP Tour Finals in November.
Medvedev beat Mannarino, 6-2, 6-3, while never being troubled on his serve and breaking the opponent four times in two sets.
The Russian broke the Frenchman’s first serving game of the match and later again to make it 5-2 in the first set. In the second set, he broke at 3-3 and 5-3 to ease into the victory. He was able to do this without facing a single break point himself.
This is now Medvedev’s seventh win in a row, and he will need all of that form for his semifinal opponent, Carlos Alcaraz. The Spaniard defeated American Tommy Paul, also in straight sets, to reach the semifinals on Saturday.
World number one, Alexander Zverev, has also secured a semifinal spot at the Vienna Open.
