LUCENA CITY — The local governments of General Trias City, Cavite, and Nasugbu, Batangas, suspended in-person classes at all levels in public and private schools on Monday, Aug. 17, due to persistent rains brought by the southwest monsoon.

School authorities were advised to implement alternative learning modalities during the suspension.

In Nasugbu, Batangas, the municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) also suspended classes on Monday.

The DRRMO said Mayor Antonio Jose Barcelon approved the suspension upon its recommendation.

Alternative Learning Modalities (ALMs) will remain in effect in accordance with the respective policies of schools, the DRRMO said.

The local government of Nasugbu urged residents to remain alert and monitor official announcements from the municipality and concerned government agencies.

In its latest forecast, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the southwest monsoon would continue to bring rains over Luzon on Monday.

Heavy rainfall was expected over Ilocos Norte, Batanes, Cagayan, the Cordillera Administrative Region, Tarlac, Pampanga, Metro Manila, Cavite and Batangas, according to the state weather bureau. /mcm
