Final Fantasy 7: Zack Fair Officially Releases January 2027

Zack Fair has become one of the most beloved characters in the Final Fantasy 7 universe, even though his role in the original 1997 game was relatively limited. A member of SOLDIER who once wielded the Buster Sword, Zack's story is deeply intertwined with Cloud Strife, the beloved Aerith Gainsborough, Sephiroth, and several of the events that ultimately shape Final Fantasy 7's epic story.

He became a much more significant player in Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7, which placed Zack at the center of the story and transformed him into a fully realized protagonist with an infectious optimism and a heartbreaking fate. Crisis Core Reunion later introduced his story to a new generation, while the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy has continued to explore new aspects of his character in unexpected ways.

Decades after his debut, Zack remains a firm fan favorite, making any new opportunity to see the former SOLDIER return especially notable for longtime Final Fantasy 7 fans.

Zack Fair is getting his own major new collectible as part of Square Enix's expanding PLAY ARTS SHIN line, with the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth version of the SOLDIER 1st Class scheduled to arrive in January 2027. The figure stands approximately 30 cm tall, or about 11.8 inches, and is modeled directly after Zack's in-game appearance in Rebirth, including his black SOLDIER uniform, muscular build, signature hairstyle, and expressive facial features.

The figure also comes with Zack’s iconic Buster Sword, complete with metallic weathering and two Materia slots. Six separate Materia pieces are included, while two interchangeable face parts and movable eyes give collectors control over Zack's expression and varying poses. His outfit features different textures used to recreate the appearance of fabric, leather, and metal across the SOLDIER uniform, giving it a distinctive and authentic quality.

PLAY ARTS SHIN itself is Square Enix's new high-end line of the long-running PLAY ARTS KAI brand. The company introduced the line with Vincent Valentine and has since expanded its Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth releases to include characters such as Cloud Strife, Tifa Lockhart, Sephiroth, and now Zack. A redesigned "articulation system" is one of SHIN's defining upgrades, removing the older click-style joint mechanism in favor of smoother movement and therefore a wider posing range. Adjustable eyes have similarly become a recurring feature across the line, with the idea being that collectors can shape these in any pose their hearts desire.

Mamegyorai currently offers the figure for ¥27,170 through its preorder listing, while western pricing appears to be somewhat higher, with Canadian retailer Maple and Mangoes listing the PLAY ARTS SHIN Zack Fair figure for $245 CAD, giving collectors outside Japan a clearer idea of what they can expect to pay.

That said, the Canadian retailer currently estimates a March 2027 arrival, slightly later than the January 2027 window provided for the Japanese listings. With Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth having brought Zack back into the spotlight and the final entry in the remake trilogy on the way soon, the new figure gives fans a chance to own a unique collectible of one of the series' most beloved heroes while hype is at an all-time high.
