One of the best crime movies of the 21st century has officially become Number 1 on streaming, just days after its initial streaming release. There have been many popular crime movies to come out in 2026, most of which performed well at the box office before soaring to new heights on streaming. This includes the Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo-led Crime 101, alongside the Glen Powell revenge thriller How to Make a Killing. But, of all the 2026 crime movies to soar on streaming, one has earned a major place amongst them.

That movie is Tuner, a Canadian thriller directed by Daniel Roher and released in the United States theatrically on May 29, 2026. The film follows Niki White (Leo Woodall), a piano tuner with a heightened sensitivity to sound whose musical mentor, Harry (Dustin Hoffman), ends up in massive debut due to a plethora of medical bills. Determined to save him, Niki becomes a professional criminal safe cracker, becoming embroiled with crime groups as he begins a series of robberies in hopes of paying off Harry's debt.

Tuner Has Unlocked The #1 Spot On Streaming

On Monday, September 21, 2026, Tuner was released on Paramount+ in the United States. Since then, the movie has quickly skyrocketed on streaming charts, swiftly surpassing everything else on the platform. According to data from September 23, 2026, the crime thriller has become the Number 1 movie in the United States. It's outshone a number of other popular titles on the platform, from recent releases like 2026's Scary Movie, to popular movies from earlier in the century, like Joe Dirt and The November Man.

Alongside Woodall and Hoffman in the leading roles, the movie also stars Havana Rose Liu, Lior Raz, Tovah Feldshuh, Jean Reno, Nissan Sakira, Gil Cohen, Jean Yoon, Dumbfoundead, Rek Lee, C.S. Lee, and Herbie Hancock. The crime thriller movie was a relative financial success too, earning $14.5 million against a $7 million budget. Prior to its theatrical release, it was a Top 10 contender at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival, while later winning Best Screenplay for a Canadian Film at the 2025 Vancouver Film Critic Choice Awards. But these accolades aren't all that make the movie so special.

The Film Holds A Special Place In The Crime Genre

In addition to its awards and streaming success, the movie is also one of the best crime movies of the 21st century. Reviews for Tuner have been almost universally positive, the film holding a Certified Fresh 94% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 191 critic reviews. It makes it the second highest-reviewed heist movie of the century, just behind Hell or High Water's 97% on the platform. It's an impressive feat that's clearly resonated with audiences at home, given how well the film is performing on Paramount+.

Since the crime movie stars two recognizable faces in Woodall and Hoffman, it seems like its Number 1 placement on Paramount+ is just the start of its success. Though it's unclear how long the movie will be on top of the platform for, it seems apparent that audiences on the streaming platform very much enjoy Tuner, something that could aid in its longevity at the top.
