A man identified as Taiwo Saheed was allegedly murdered by suspected cultists in the Atan area of Ogun State, with footage of the killing circulating on social media.
PUNCH Metro learnt from eyewitness accounts and a video of the incident on Monday that the killing, which occurred on Thursday, was suspected to have been carried out by members of the outlawed Eiye Confraternity in an alleged reprisal attack.
The disturbing footage showed Saheed lying in a pool of blood as one of the assailants repeatedly struck him with what appeared to be a machete before severing his head from his body.
Other members of the group were seen hailing and ululating as the attack continued.
Confirming the incident in an exclusive response to an inquiry by our correspondent on Monday, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Babaseyi Oluseyi, said investigations were being intensified to apprehend those responsible.
He said, “The Ogun State Police Command is intensifying investigations into the murder of Taiwo Saheed in Igbo Olomi, Atan-Ota, on 15 October 2026.

Atan has witnessed incidents of cult-related violence in Ogun State.
In April, the command arrested four suspected cultists over alleged assault, armed robbery, unlawful possession of a firearm and the theft of an iPhone 14 Pro Max.
The suspects were identified as Samson John, 25; Olufowora Michael, 28; Odeh Samuel Ejeh, 25; and Olajide Jeremiah, 28.
They were arrested following a report lodged at a police station at about 11.30pm on April 16, 2026.
