‘Endhiran’ completes 16 years: Cinematographer Rathnavelu shares BTS pictures, thanks Shankar and Rajinikanth; ‘These frames still carry the same magic’

Ace cinematographer Rathnavelu, popularly known as Randy celebrated 16 years of superstar Rajinikanth starrer ‘Endhiran’, the blockbuster sci-fi action film directed by Shankar. To mark the occasion, he shared several behind-the-scenes pictures from the sets and wrote a heartfelt note about his experience working on the film.

. One of the pictures shows the crew in green screen body suits working their way around the robot in the film. Some of the clicks also include him with Rajinikanth’s Chitti The Robot look.Along with the picture, he wrote in his caption, “ENDHIRAN 16 years… and these frames still carry the same magic.

Looking back at these BTS moments from Endhiran feels like opening a time capsule — filled with the people, passion, madness, challenges, and unforgettable memories that shaped this extraordinary journey.”

Rathnavelu thanks Shankar and the team

The cinematographer further shared his gratitude to director Shankar for trusting him with the project. He also thanked the film’s cast and crew for making the experience memorable.“Deeply grateful to Shankar sir for the opportunity, trust, and incredible collaboration; Superstar Rajinikanth sir, AR Rahman, Aishwarya Rai, Sabu Cyril, Srinivas Mohan, Resul Pookutty, Ken Metzker,Madan Karky,Legacy Effects, Sun Pictures, and the entire team for making this journey so special,” he wrote.

Rathnavelu remembers his camera team

Rathnavelu also made it a point to remember the young assistant cameramen who worked alongside him on ‘Endhiran’. He praised their contribution and said the film continues to hold a special place in his heart even after 16 years.“And a heartfelt shout-out to my young camera team, who gave it their all. Sixteen years later, Endhiran still holds a very special place in my heart. Some journeys never really leave you,” he added.

About ‘Endhiran’

‘Endhiran’ also known as ‘Robot’ was released in 2010 and became one of the biggest blockbusters in Indian cinema. Its large-scale visuals, action sequences and special effects made it a landmark film.The Tamil sci-fi action film featured Rajinikanth in dual roles as a scientist Vaseegaran and his humanoid robot creation Chitti. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan played the female lead. The film also starred Danny Denzongpa, Santhanam and Karunas in important roles.
