From $275 million to $325 million: How Patrick and Brittany Mahomes’ soccer club grew in one year

The Kansas City Current are now worth $325 million, according to Forbes' 2026 NWSL valuations. That puts the club co-owned by Patrick and Brittany Mahomes second in the league, behind only Angel City FC at $340 million.

A year ago Forbes had the Current at $275 million, so the value rose about 18 percent in twelve months.

Kansas City Current valuation rises from $275 million to $325 million

The numbers are simple. Forbes valued the Current at $275 million in 2025 and raised that to $325 million this spring. Angel City still leads, and its edge grew from $5 million last year to $15 million. Kansas City is still close enough that the top spot is not out of reach, though the gap moved the wrong way.Growth was not unique to Kansas City, and it was not even the fastest.

Forbes says the average NWSL team, leaving out Denver and Boston in their debut seasons, is worth about $200 million, up 49 percent from last year. Angel City rose 21 percent. Bay FC, San Diego and Washington all grew faster than the Current's 18 percent, and the Spirit jumped 65 percent. Kansas City just started from a higher base, so each point of growth is worth more dollars.Stability explains part of it. The NWSL runs on a salary cap and has no relegation, so owners can plan years ahead instead of fearing a bad season will wreck the balance sheet.

Investors pay for that kind of predictability, and each new expansion fee pushes the numbers higher.Revenue backs up the price. The list shows the Current at roughly $38 million, level with Angel City. Forbes says the club could climb out of operating losses as soon as this year. Red ink is not rare in pro sports. Twelve of 30 MLB teams and 16 of 29 MLS teams posted negative operating income in 2025.

How the Mahomes family became KC Current owners

Brittany Mahomes played professional soccer in Iceland, and that background explains why the couple's name is on this club.

She joined Angie and Chris Long in the ownership group, and Patrick came aboard in 2022, making him one of the first active NFL players with a stake in an NWSL team. Soccer is not his only side bet. He also owns pieces of the Kansas City Royals, Sporting Kansas City and Alpine F1.

The club has kept its public message simple. Its statement reads: "When Angie Long, Chris Long, and Brittany Mahomes brought this NWSL franchise to Kansas City, they were clear in their commitment to do it right, for the players and for the city."Results on the field were less tidy when the list came out in April. Kansas City sat 14th under Armas, the first former MLS head coach to move into the NWSL, even after winning the 2025 Shield.Buyers are not waiting for a turnaround. Columbus will pay a $205 million expansion fee to join in 2028, while Denver paid $110 million in 2025. Against those numbers, $325 million for a club with a Shield and a purpose-built stadium looks less like a stretch.
