Health Minister, World Bank discuss future partnership

Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar discussed with a World Bank delegation existing cooperation frameworks and areas of future partnership to support Egypt’s health sector, as part of ongoing efforts to develop the healthcare system and improve the quality of services provided to citizens.

Ministry Spokesperson Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said the two sides discussed ongoing and future joint projects, stressing full alignment between the Ministry’s and the World Bank’s vision for developing the healthcare system, supporting the local manufacturing of medicines and medical supplies, and deepening partnerships with the private sector to provide advanced treatments.

He added that the two sides reviewed the main components of the project to support the implementation of the Universal Health Insurance System, improve the infrastructure of hospitals and health units, and equip facilities in governorates targeted in the upcoming phases.

They also discussed integrating university hospitals into the system to ensure the provision of the highest levels of healthcare.

The meeting also discussed benefiting from Indonesia’s leading experience in universal health coverage and transferring field expertise by identifying best practices in managing large-scale health systems, developing investment models, and implementing self-operation mechanisms and public-private partnerships.

A forthcoming visit to Indonesia is also being arranged in coordination with the World Bank to learn from its experience, enhance the capabilities of Egyptian healthcare personnel, and apply the highest quality standards.
