Project Hail Mary Soars Past Colossal Milestone Ahead Of New 2026 Release

Project Hail Mary has hit yet another major milestone in a landmark year that is still going strong. The 2026 movie, which is adapted from the Andy Weir sci-fi novel of the same name, stars Ryan Gosling as Ryland Grace, a middle school science teacher who is called upon to go to space and try and discover why a mysterious substance is devouring the sun. Although the majority of the movie follows Grace and his alien companion (James Ortiz), who he names Rocky, the supporting cast includes Oscar nominee Sandra Hüller, Lost star Ken Leung, and comedian Milana Vayntrub.

The Phil Lord and Christopher Miller project, which was written by Drew Goddard, earned $685 million worldwide during its theatrical run and currently stands as the seventh highest-grossing movie of the year (behind The Devil Wears Prada 2, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, Michael, Toy Story 5, The Odyssey, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day). This total saw it more than tripling its reported net budget of $200 million. Although it is no longer in theaters, 2026's Project Hail Mary is continuing its domination over the pop culture sphere in a brand-new arena.

Project Hail Mary Officially Hits A New Streaming High

Now, just over six months after its theatrical debut, Project Hail Mary has officially passed the 100-day milestone on the MGM+ streaming chart in both the United States and the United Kingdom. It has spent 101 days in the U.S. Top 10, on which it is currently No. 6 behind the Renny Harlin shark movie Deep Water (No. 5), the J.K. Simmons series The Westies (No. 4), Epix's sci-fi horror series From (No. 3), BBC One's new Kit Harington-led Dickens adaptation A Tale of Two Cities (No. 2), and the Jon Hamm crime drama American Hostage.

The Ryan Gosling movie has also spent 101 days on the streamer's Top 10 chart in the U.K., where it is currently No. 7. While it is also falling behind The Westies (No. 4) and American Hostage (No. 2) in that region, the other titles that are charting above it are the Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson-produced series Power Book IV: Force (No. 6) and Power Book III: Raising Kanan (No. 5) alongside the Starz time travel romance series Outlander (No. 3) and its prequel Outlander: Blood of My Blood (No. 1).

The Franchise Is Already Gearing Up For A Major Return

This streaming milestone is far from the end of the road for the Project Hail Mary movie. In addition to its continued streaming success, which could potentially lead to further milestones, as well as the possibility that it could be a strong Oscars contender during the 2026-2027 awards season, the sci-fi project will be expanding its reach with two major new releases before the end of the year.

First, Project Hail Mary is set to receive a special physical media release in the form of a three-disc Steelbook edition. This Amazon-exclusive version, which debuts on October 13, will feature additional bonus materials and a disc presenting the movie in the 1.43:1 IMAX ratio. This will be followed by the game Project Hail Mary: Journey Among the Stars, an immersive project that allows players to play as Ryland Grace in a new original narrative inspired by the film. The game is expected to debut on mixed-reality and VR platforms in late 2026.
