Watch Jenna Dewan & Val Chmerkovskiy Unleash Their Inner ‘Animal’ on ‘Dancing With the Stars’

Jenna Dewan was ready to get a little wild on the Dancing With the Stars ballroom floor for Viral Hits Night.

The actress and her pro partner, Val Chmerkovskiy, brought KATSEYE‘s “Animal” to life with an energetic jive during the Tuesday (Sept. 22) episode of Dancing With the Stars, giving the global girl group’s Billboard Hot 100 hit its own ballroom revamp.

Dewan was dressed in a sparkly leopard-print look, channeling the song’s fierce energy as she and Chmerkovskiy tore through the routine. The dance number featured fast footwork, sharp kicks and a significant amount of attitude to amplify the intense choreography. The ballroom itself was also on theme, with animal-print lighting up the dance floor and even jungle-luxe decor to help set the stage for the performance.

This routine was the pair’s second performance of the season after making their debut with a tango to Blondie’s “Call Me” during the two-night season 35 premiere. That routine earned the pair a score of 19/30, while their “Animal” jive earned three 7s from the judges for a total of 21/30.

The judges also noticed the improvement. Carrie Ann Inaba praised the duo’s stronger connection, while Derek Hough called the performance “fast, furious, fantastic.” Bruno Tonioli similarly embraced Dewan’s wild side, calling her a “sexy beast.”

The performance gave the KATSEYE track its own flair, trading the usual choreography for a high-energy jive. The song itself has carried momentum since its release in July, becoming one of the group’s biggest hits to date. The track debuted at No. 24 on the Hot 100 dated Aug. 8, and has spent eight weeks on the chart, making it the group’s sixth song to make it onto the tally.
