Trains to run on special Rosh Hashanah schedule, Israel Railways announces

On the eve of the holiday, Friday, September 11, trains will operate from approximately 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with increased service on the Haifa-Tel Aviv line.

Trains will operate on a special schedule during Rosh Hashanah, Israel Railways announced on Monday.

On the eve of the holiday, Friday, September 11, trains will operate from approximately 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with increased service on the Haifa-Tel Aviv line.

Train service will resume after the holiday on Sunday, September 13, beginning at approximately 9:30 p.m.

In addition, on the Selichot days, Tuesday and Wednesday, September 8 to 9 and September 15 to 16, 2026, nighttime train service will be extended to Jerusalem's Yitzhak Navon Station.

Gush Dan metro trains technically capable of operating on Shabbat

Last month, it was revealed that the planned Gush Dan metro trains will be highly automated, driverless, and run every minute and a half, even during peak hours, and would be technically capable of operating on weekends or holidays such as Rosh Hashanah.

Eliminating drivers would reduce the extent of Shabbat violations involved in running the network, although security and operations personnel would still be required on Fridays and Saturdays.

An NTA official stressed, however, that weekend service is only a technical possibility and that the decision will ultimately be made by the political leadership.
