Hasan Piker, better known online as HasanAbi, is suing CNN commentator Scott Jennings for more than $72 million, saying Jennings falsely claimed he advocated lynching Black Americans. The defamation complaint got filed in federal court in Washington, D.C., on October 27, 2026, and it accuses Jennings of showing manipulated livestream footage and pinning a fabricated quote on the Twitch streamer. Piker says the accusations hurt his reputation and threatened his professional income. He wants $27.5 million in compensatory damages and another $45 million in punitive damages. Jennings has not publicly responded to the lawsuit.

Hasan Piker officially announced that he is suing Scott Jennings for 72 million dollars. It's about time: "This is not just about Scott Jennings, although he certainly messed up. This is about truth in the media. I don't think you should be able to get away with lying like this."

The lawsuit targets Jennings' claims about HasanAbi supporting racial violence

It all started on August 11, 2026, when Jennings talked about Piker on The Scott Jennings Show and accused him of calling for Black voters to be lynched. He also posted on X that Piker said the United States should resume lynchings against Black people.

Piker's complaint argues Jennings went past normal political criticism because he used a misleading video as proof.

According to the filing, Jennings added a caption that appeared to quote Piker saying, “LET'S GO BACK TO A BETTER TIME WHEN LYNCHINGS WERE HAPPENING.” Piker denies ever advocating lynching.

His lawyers say the original remarks were taken out of context, and that Jennings' presentation falsely made the streamer look like he supported racial violence. The suit brings claims of defamation, defamation by implication and false light.

Also, the complaint alleges Jennings acted with “actual malice,” which in legal terms means he knew the accusations were false or published them with reckless disregard for the truth. That allegation still has to be established in court.

HasanAbi says the $72.5 million claim is about media accountability and professional losses

The suit asks for $27.5 million in compensatory damages for alleged harm, plus $45 million in punitive damages.

Piker's filing lists lost sponsorships, commercial opportunities, partnership revenue and viewers among the financial losses he says came from Jennings' statements. It also cites reputational damage, public humiliation, emotional distress and mental anguish.

Piker talked about the lawsuit on his October 27 livestream, and said the issue goes beyond his own fight with Jennings.

“This is not just about Scott Jennings. Although he certainly messed up. This is about truth in the media,” Piker said.

He also criticized what he sees as a lack of accountability for political commentators, noting that Jennings speaks on CNN as well as through Salem Media. Piker argued commentators should be more careful with their claims.

The case sits in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. The $72.5 million figure is what Piker is seeking, not money he's been awarded, and the court has yet to decide whether Jennings is legally responsible for the alleged harm.
