A new-look Indian team under new captain Smriti Mandhana to take on Zimbabwe in a white ball series spanning three T20Is and three ODIs was announced on Tuesday.

Smriti’s appointment as the next captain of India across all formats was officially announced by the BCCI minutes before the squads for the Zimbabwe series landed. This comes after Harmanpreet Kaur announced her decision to step down from the leadership of the side earlier in the day.

Shafali Verma will be Smrirti’s deputy in the T20I series while Deepti Sharma will assist her in the ODIs as her vice-captain.

A number of players from the A squad who have put in consistent performances across the tour of England and the recent multi-format series against Australia A have been named in these lineups.

The likes of Jemimah Rodrigues, who has been recovering from a hamstring injury, and Renuka Singh Thakur whose fitness issues have eaten away at her gametime in the past few months, are notable absentees.

India’s T20I Squad: Smriti Mandhana [C], Shafali Verma [VC], Niki Prasad, Harmanpreet Kaur, Anushka Sharma, Richa Ghosh [WK], G Kamalini [WK], Deepti Sharma, Prema Rawat, Sree Charani, Nandni Sharma, Kranti Gaud, Arundhati Reddy, Jintimani Kalita, Minnu Mani

India’s ODI Squad: Smriti Mandhana [C], Shafali Verma, Pratika Rawal, Harmanpreet Kaur, Harleen Deol, Tejal Hasabnis, Deepti Sharma [VC], Richa Ghosh [WK], Yastika Bhatia [WK], Vaishnavi Sharma, Nandni Sharma, Sree Charani, Kranti Gaud, Sayali Satghare, Renuka Thakur
