The Weekender

Strictly Come Dancing brought some of music's biggest legends to the ballroom on Saturday night as the celebrities went toe-to-toe for Icons Week.

From a leopard-print-clad Shania Twain and a red-hot Raye to a suave, pinstriped Frank Sinatra and a shimmering Aretha Franklin, contestants channelled their inner music legends this week in a bid to wow the judges.

Cach and Maddie shared the top spot on this week’s leaderboard with Jamie and Carlos, both couples scoring 34 points, while Sarah and Julian finished bottom with 21.

TV star Dyer and her partner Nikita Kuzmin danced a rumba to Mariah Carey’s Hero, which earned them a score of 25.

She was praised for her “beautiful” form by Shirley Ballas.

“Your timing was very good. You had quite difficult choreography,” she added.

“You kept (your feet) moving all the time, which was amazing. You handled that beautifully.”

Sunday night’s results show will feature a performance from the dancers inspired by the many different eras of Madonna’s career.

Country singer Belles, who recorded a duet with Dolly Parton earlier this year, will perform her hit Jolene accompanied by professional dancers Amy Dowden and Kai Widdrington.

Dubbed the Queen of Country, Dolly Parton died of cancer on August 25 this year, aged 80.

This week’s show came after another dramatic weekend in the ballroom, which saw actress Melanie Walters and her professional partner Aljaž Škorjanec become the second couple eliminated from the competition.

Australian singer Delta Goodrem was absent from tonight's show after suffering a rib injury.

The star, who topped last week's leaderboard alongside professional partner Kai Widdrington, has been granted a bye into the next round.

The remaining couples will be hoping to impress judges as the battle for the Glitterball Trophy continues.
