Here’s what Charli XCX played as she invited Underscores on stage to kick off ‘Music, Fashion, Film’ headline tour in Philadelphia

Charli XCX has kicked off her ‘Music, Fashion, Film’ tour – check out what went down on the opening night below.

The North American tour dates come in celebration of her latest album, ‘Music, Fashion, Film’, which was released in July. Charli played the first show of the tour in Philadelphia last night (September 11), opening with ‘Rock Music’, her first single from this new era.

She then launched into ‘Yeah’, ‘Apple’ from 2024’s ‘Brat’ and ‘Wink Wink’, before giving ‘Persona’ its first-ever live performance. As she had previously promised on social media, the set included a surprise track which, for night one, was ‘Stay Away’ from her 2013 debut album ‘True Romance’. It came alongside other fan favourites like ‘pink diamond’, ‘Track 10’ and ‘party 4 u’.

Later, she invited tour opener Underscores to the stage for a duet of her track ‘Do It’ from her latest album ‘U‘.

The final portion of the set focused on songs from ‘Music, Fashion, Film’, with Charli playing b-side ‘Playboy Bunny’ followed by her ode to collaborator A.G. Cook, ‘Magic Metal Montana’, and ‘SS26’. Finally, she wrapped up with ‘No One Lasts Forever’.

Charli also recently announced a UK and European arena tour for 2027, with Audrey Hobert joining at all dates as a special guest opener. Tickets go on general sale at 9am BST next Friday (September 18) – you’ll be able to buy yours here, and you can see a full list of dates here.

Last month saw Charli headline Reading & Leeds 2026 off the back of the album.

In a four-star review, NME described her Reading slot as “a stylish, cinematic, but sometimes underwhelming performance”. It reasoned that the early set time was “unfortunate” for the singer, who “thrives in the dark”. The review went on to praise the “incredibly powerful ending”, concluding: “If only the whole set could have landed quite as hard.”

Meanwhile, Charli has released a limited number of $25 (£18.50) ‘Angel Tickets’ for her North American tour. The seats are selected at random and could include limited view, lower and upper levels, as well as GA Floor.

In other news, the pop star has been nominated for two MTV VMAs – Best Pop and Best Art Direction – for her recent single ‘SS26’. Earlier this summer, she joined The Strokes on stage at Outside Lands to perform ‘Take It Or Leave It’, and teamed up with Lorde at Lollapalooza.

Charli XCX “begrudgingly” released the B-sides for ‘Music, Fashion, Film’ in July, and shared the album’s accompanying live film.
