It seems Harry Potter fans have an awful lot to look forward to over the next few years. The first season of the new HBO series officially premieres on Christmas Day this year, while rumors abound that the sequel to Hogwarts Legacy might actually be much closer than any of us suspected.
There's also the ongoing Audible series, which offers a full-cast audio retelling of the seven Harry Potter novels. If you're a fan of the Wizarding World, I've no doubt you're as giddy as a school girl. In the midst of all this, another treat for Harry Potter fans has just been officially announced.
Defenders Of Hogwarts is a new multiplayer board game that appears to be based around the climatic battle between Harry and Lord Voldemort at the end of The Deathly Hallows. The game has been designed by MinaLima, the graphic designers of the Harry Potter movie universe, and supports two to five players across games that can take up to 90 minutes.
"Lord Voldemort’s arrival at the castle is imminent," reads the game's synopsis. "Prepare for what lies ahead by honing your spell-casting skills, exploring the storied grounds of Hogwarts, and laying the groundwork for a battle between good and evil. But will you do so as a loyal Hogwarts student, or as a member of the Dark Forces, seeking to bring about a new era of darkness? The choice is yours."
The game will soon be going live on Kickstarter, where you'll be able to help fund it, if you so choose. The team working on the game are the very same team who designed such iconic props as the Marauder's Map and Daily Prophet, while the game design is being handled by multi-award-winning industrial designer David Waterman. If you're a Potter fan, you'll definitely want to keep your eye on this one.
In other Potter news, Hogwarts Legacy 2 was recently officially announced. In admittedly rather unexciting fashion, a Warner Bros. statement to shareholders confirmed the bews with the following quote:
"Games remains an important growth lever as we work toward our long-term Studios segment goals. During the second quarter, we released LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight – the highest rated LEGO game ever – and Game of Thrones: Dragonfire, our second mobile game from the Game of Thrones universe. These releases marked the first launches under our refocused strategy centered around four key $1 billion+ franchises with disciplined investment behind fewer, higher conviction titles. We expect Games to more meaningfully contribute to segment profitability going forward as our pipeline expands, including the second installment of Hogwarts Legacy."
"Please let it be true that it is possible to travel from London to Diagon Alley. I really hope the world is divided into smaller maps which you can fast travel to by using flying powder. Just have Hogwarts and its surroundings + Hogsmeade + train station etc, including Ministry of Magic, Diagon Alley, Gringotts as separate maps," one fan enthused over on the Hogwarts Legacy subreddit.
Whether you're a gamer or not, if you like Harry Potter you clearly have a pretty busy calendar coming up.
