SUBIC BAY FREEPORT, Philippines — Two fishers from Dasol, Pangasinan, were rescued by a passing cargo ship after drifting at sea for two days when their fishing boat was struck by a dolphin, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) confirmed on Monday (Oct. 12)

The fishers, identified as Carman Aday, 32, and Luwie Cencio, were rescued by the MV Atlantic Affinity on Oct. 6 in waters about 67 nautical miles (124 kilometers) west of Masinloc, Zambales, according to PCG Zambales reports.

The two were aboard the fishing boat Judy Mark when the incident occurred at around 10 p.m. on Oct. 4, while they were fishing about 80 nautical miles (148 km) west of Dasol, Pangasinan.

After receiving a report from the ship, the Coast Guard directed its units in Zambales to assist in the transfer of the rescued fishers.

A Coast Guard response team aboard patrol craft met the cargo ship at a designated rendezvous point about six nautical miles west of Sampaloc Point in Subic, Zambales, on the evening of Oct. 6.

The fishers were safely transferred to the Coast Guard team at around 11:18 p.m. and brought to Barangay Wawandue in Subic, arriving at around 1:38 a.m. on Oct. 7.

They were taken to the Subic Fire Rescue facility for medical assistance and evaluation.
