Trevor Noah pokes fun at flyover backlash [video]

Trevor Noah has joked about Airlink’s dramatically low flyover at the DHL Stadium in Cape Town last weekend, which made international headlines. 

Two Embraer aircraft flew in formation ahead of the Springboks match against the All Blacks in the Greatest Rivalry Series.

As a result of the public scrutiny, the domestic carrier volunteered to provide all necessary information about its flight plans in an official review by the South African Civil Aviation Authority.

It also withdrew its application to perform a flyover at the FNB Stadium this past weekend.

TREVOR NOAH JOKES ABOUT AIRLINK FLYOVER

In his latest episode of What Now?, Trevor Noah touched on the topic of Airlink’s flyover at the DHL Stadium in Cape Town.

The South African comedian jokingly labelled the air stunt as “the most expensive gender-reveal ever”, referring to the scenes of the aircraft flying through plumes of brightly coloured smoke.

Shutting down criticism, Trevor said of the flights: “This is just our thing in South Africa.

“Airlink was like, ‘We’re going to show you’. High risk, high reward”.

Trevor Noah initially expressed concern after watching the footage, but later added that the pilots were professional and experienced.

Meanwhile, Checkers has also poked fun at the backlash Airlink’s flypast has received.

In a promotional video posted on its social media pages, the supermarket chain spoofed a video of air controllers who had mistakenly given pilots authorisation to fly below the recommended height restrictions.
