Mary Beth Barone Rom-Com Series ‘Hard Feelings’ Lands At Hulu From A24; Benito Skinner To Co-Star

EXCLUSIVE: In a competitive situation, Hulu has nabbed Hard Feelings, a rom-com series created by and starring actress/comedian/writer Mary Beth Barone. She has recruited frequent collaborator and Overcompensating co-star Benito Skinner for a supporting role in the project, from A24, which has been put on fast-track development, I hear.
Written by Barone in her first turn as series creator and lead, Hard Feelings follows Claire Ambrose (Barone), New York City’s most sought-after dating consultant, who teaches straight men communication skills and emotional intelligence while repeatedly choosing to date men who possess neither. Details about Skinner’s character have not been revealed.
Scott King will serve as showrunner and will executive produce Hard Feelings alongside Barone, Skinner, Mackenzie Roussos of E360 and A24.
Barone stars opposite Skinner and is a writer on his Prime Video comedy series Overcompensating, which also comes from A24. Her hour-long comedy special, Galaxy Brain, was released on Netflix in July and as a comedy album in August via Universal Music’s MCA. Barone’s self-produced first standup special Thought Provoking came out in 2024. Barone and fellow comedian/actor/writer Skinner are longtime friends who co-host together the podcast Ride.

Skinner is the creator, star and executive producer of the well received Overcompensating, which recently wrapped production on its second season. His recent film credits include Idiotka, which premiered at the 2025 SXSW Film Festival.
