Tresoldi not yet ready for Italy as he asks Mancini for more time

Multiple sources in Italy say Nicolò Tresoldi won’t be in the Azzurri squad for upcoming Nations League games, as he first wants to complete his journey with the Germany U21 squad.

Club Brugge striker Tresoldi won’t be called up by Roberto Mancini for Italy’s Nations League games between September and October.

Tresoldi puts Italy on hold

The 22-year-old had initially given the green light to playing for the Azzurri, as reported by Gazzetta, but during the latest chat with Mancini and Claudio Ranieri, the striker reportedly asked for more time, suggesting that he wants to play in the U21 European Championship with Germany next summer before making a final decision on the country to represent at a senior level.

Therefore, according to Repubblica, Gazzetta, and other Italian sources, the FIGC has stopped the nationality-change request submitted to FIFA.

The Italian federation might resume talks with Tresoldi in the future, but it’s not guaranteed.

Born in Cagliari on August 20, 2024, Tresoldi holds Italian and German citizenship, as he moved to Germany with his family as a kid.

He has represented Germany at the U19, U20 and U21 levels and has 12 goals in 24 appearances with Germany’s U21 squad.

Meanwhile, Cagliari midfielder Alessandro Romano has agreed to play for Italy after representing Switzerland at the youth level and is expected to join Mancini’s squad for upcoming international matches.
