The ‘best pizza’ Marco Pierre White has ever had is coming to London

The London List

A pizzeria praised by Marco Pierre White as serving the “very best pizza I’ve ever had” is opening its first London site.

Forbici, which already has restaurants in Manchester and Sheffield, will open in London Bridge next month, bringing its Neapolitan-style pizzas to Tooley Street, just moments from Borough Market.

The pizzeria has also been recognised among the Top 100 Best Pizzas in the World, making it one of just two UK pizzerias to receive the accolade.

Forbici

It will open its first London restaurant at 120 Tooley Street on Tuesday, October 27.

The restaurant was founded in Manchester and takes inspiration from the traditions of Naples, with its pizzas made using a three-generation Biga dough.

Forbici says the dough combines traditional Italian techniques with its own approach to fermentation, creating a light and airy crust.

Its pizzas are also cut with scissors, with the restaurant's name translating as “scissors” in Italian.

Among the pizzas coming to London will be the Provola e Pepe, topped with San Marzano tomato, smoked provola, black pepper and fresh basil.

Another speciality is the Porcini e Tartufo, a white-base pizza with Fior di latte, porcini mushrooms, Italian truffle sauce and chives.

The London restaurant will also serve guest and white-base pizzas.

Forbici's biggest celebrity endorsement came earlier this year when chef Marco Pierre White visited its Manchester restaurant unannounced.

After trying the pizza, White, the first British chef to be awarded three Michelin stars, described it as the “very best pizza I’ve ever had in my life”.

He also signed the menu and left a personal note for Forbici's pizzaiolo and Master Baker, Davide Argentino.

Andrew Garton CEO at Forbici said: “We’ve always wanted Forbici to grow without losing what makes it special.

“Our roots are firmly in the traditions of Naples, and we’ve built something we’re incredibly proud of in Manchester and Sheffield by taking that craft and making it our own.

“Being recognised among the Top 100 Best Pizzas in the World is a brilliant reflection of what we’ve created. London feels like a natural next step for us, and we’re excited to bring what we do to the capital for the first time.

“We know London has a brilliant and discerning pizza scene, and we can’t wait to give Londoners a reason to make Forbici their new go-to.”

Forbici will open at 120 Tooley Street, London Bridge, SE1 2TH, on Tuesday, October 27.
