Anti-terror police investigate as one person killed in shooting near Paris

Translate

One person has been killed and four others injured in a Parisian suburb, French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu has said.

The "very serious events" happened in Trappes, to the west of Paris, Lecornu wrote on social media, adding that the suspected attack had been "apprehended and placed in police custody".

A police source said a man opened fire from a vehicle on Friday, according to news agency AFP, and was later arrested in the nearby town of Coignières at about 10:30 local time (08:30 GMT).

Reports in French media suggest the number of injured may be higher and that a 12-year-old child may be among them.

Lecornu said the National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor's Office has announced it is monitoring the situation.
