Cross River lawmakers mourn passing of power commissioner

The Speaker of the River State House of Assembly, Elvert Ayambem, on behalf of the House, has expressed deep sadness over the death of the Commissioner for Power and Renewable Energy, Prince Eka Williams, describing his passing as a painful loss to Cross River State.

PUNCH Online reports that Williams died on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at a hospital in Abuja. 

In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Matthew Okache, and made available to journalists on Monday in Calabar, the speaker described the late commissioner as a committed politician and dedicated public servant who contributed meaningfully to the political development and administration of the state.

The statement read, “The Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem, on behalf of the 10th Cross River State House of Assembly, has expressed deep sadness over the death of the Commissioner for Power and Renewable Energy, Prince Eka Williams, describing his passing as a painful loss to Cross River State.”

Ayambem said Williams brought dedication to his responsibilities as a member of the State Executive Council and also contributed to national conversations on the power sector through his leadership of the Forum of Commissioners for Power and Energy in Nigeria.

He commiserated with Governor Bassey Otu, members of the State Executive Council, the APC family, the people of Ikom and Akparabong communities, as well as the deceased’s family, friends and associates, adding that the deceased gave himself to the advancement of the state.

“Prince Eka Williams believed in service and gave himself to the advancement of Cross River. His death is a painful loss to the state, and his contributions to public service will not be forgotten”, the speaker added.

He prayed that God would grant the family the strength to bear the loss and grant the late commissioner eternal rest.
