India wins first Asian Games 2026 medal with silver in 10m air rifle women's team

Elavenil Valarivan, Sonam Maskar, and Vidarsa K. Vinod won India’s first medal of the Asian Games 2026, as they combined to clinch the silver medal in the 10m Air Rifle Women Team event on Sunday.
The Indian trio totalled 1898.0 points after six series of shooting each at the Aichi Prefectural General Shooting Gallery.
The Chinese team — consisting of Zifei Wang, Jiayu Han and Yuchen Du — won gold with an aggregate score of 1904.2, while Japan bagged bronze with 1897.1 points.
Elavenil and Maskar also qualified for the individual final, which will happen later in the day. The latter finished third with 634.1 points, while the former ended seventh with 633.5 points. Wang topped the qualification round with 636.8 points.
This is India’s second consecutive silver in this event at the Asiad, after having finished second in Hangzhou in 2023.
