Good news for Orlando Pirates as Dlamini, Mbatha and Makgopa return from injury

Orlando Pirates have been handed a major boost ahead of their all-important CAF Champions League second-leg clash against La Cure Waves.

The Buccaneers host the Mauritian side at the Orlando Amstel Arena on Saturday afternoon in the second leg of their CAF Champions League first preliminary round tie.

The first leg ended in a surprising 0-0 draw in Mauritius, a result that left many Pirates supporters disappointed after they had expected the Soweto giants to secure a convincing advantage.

Going into Saturday’s decisive encounter, the Sea Robbers know exactly what is required. A victory will see them progress to the second preliminary round, while a scoring draw or defeat would result in a shock early exit from the competition.

Which players will return for Orlando Pirates?

Pirates received some welcome news ahead of the match, with key players Kabelo Dlamini, Thalente Mbatha and Evidence Makgopa all taking part in Friday’s training session.

The trio would provide a significant boost to Abdeslam Ouaddou, with the Pirates coach potentially able to call on some familiar faces as his side look to book their place in the next round.

Dlamini is yet to feature this season and has struggled for regular game time over the past two years. A return to action would therefore be welcomed by Bucs supporters, particularly given his experience.

Mbatha, meanwhile, had featured in a couple of matches for Orlando Pirates earlier in the campaign before an injury ruled him out for close to a month. His return gives Ouaddou another option in midfield.

Makgopa is also yet to make an appearance this season. However, with Yanela Mbuthuma and Boitumelo Radiopane showing promising form, the striker could face a battle for regular minutes once he returns.

The Sea Robbers will now hope the trio’s involvement in training is a sign that they could be available for Saturday’s crucial Champions League encounter.
