The controversy began after Erigga took to X on Wednesday to acknowledge artistes who built their careers without financial support or wealth from their families.

“Shoutout to all the musicians who don’t come from family money and have to grind for every single dollar they earn,” Erigga wrote.

Davido, who was born into a wealthy family, responded to the post while defending musicians who come from privileged backgrounds.

Quoting Erigga's post, the Grammy-nominated singer wrote in Pidgin: “No be we say make your pops no guard o. Shoutout to the ones that came from family money and still grind to the top. Comot here with that your useless motivation. Imbecile.”

Davido's response quickly attracted attention, with many social media users debating whether coming from a wealthy family should diminish the achievements of artistes who go on to build successful careers.

The singer later appeared to suggest that he could eventually step away from music to focus on his other ventures and wealth.

“No worry o I go soon leave their music for una go make my billions… then that shit gonna be boring AF,” Davido wrote.

He followed the comment with a rhetorical question: “Deep down, who like poverty?”
